The city of Sacramento has a rebate program for residents which will begin again in 2016. The Sacramento County Water Agency (SCWA) is providing rebates to qualifying residents and commercial properties for converting existing turf with approved drought resistant, low to medium water use plants and/or native plants. SCWA residential customers may receive a rebate of $.50/square foot up to a maximum of $1,000 per household. Commercial customers may receive a rebate of $1.50/square foot up to a maximum of $2,500 per property. SCWA will come out to the site and perform the following tasks: Measure the square footage of your existing turf area, provide eligible rebate amount and review terms and conditions with you. Obtain your signature on the application agreeing to the terms and conditions. Residential customers will be contacted within 10 business days by SCWA to discuss your project and schedule your pre-inspection. Commercial customers will be contacted within 20 business days by SCWA staff to discuss your project and schedule your pre-inspection.
There are a few time sensitive guidelines, as well. Residential customers will have 90 days to complete their conversion. Commercial customers will have 90 days to complete their conversion after the Planning Department’s approval. To qualify you must be a SCWA customer. Be a property owner of record. Must have a minimum of 300 sf of lawn to convert. Lawn must be existing—projects in progress do not qualify. After project completion, applicant will complete a Plant Coverage Worksheet and contact their inspector to visit the project site to verify that all program requirements were met.
