Residents of Millbrae will sustain an increase to their sewer bill. Members of City council voted this week for the much needed raise, due to the cost of mandatory sewer infrastructure repairs. This change is required, in part, due to an ever aging underground infrastructure, but mainly due to the City’s obligation to pay for water laden with bacteria that leaked into the bay over 5 years ago. This change will be implemented immediately and will increase the monthly bill structure by approximately $15. The current plan has yearly increases scheduled through 2019. While some were dismayed, many residents in attendance believe it is fiscally sound to apply this aggressive measure. It also ensures the City can adhere to and participate in the clean water laws that are federally monitored.
